Visitor groups from 42 states participated in the surveys. Over half of the respondent groups (55%) were from 7 states: Tennessee, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, or Alabama.

14% of Exit Survey respondents live within 50 miles (versus 5% of other survey respondents) and 25% live within 100 miles (versus 10% of other survey respondents).

Respondents who live close to the park were more likely to live in rural or semi-rural communities. Respondents from further away were more likely to live in suburban or urban communities.

Almost half (48%) of Not-in-Cades Cove respondents were between 30 and 60 years old. 12% were seniors, 11% were between 18 and 29 years old and 29% were under 18 years old.

Respondents were generally well-educated. 49% reported they had a college degree, and a third of these had graduate degrees.

About two thirds of respondents said they had visited Great Smoky Mountains National Park before and most repeat visitors had been to the park more than once.

Over 40% of survey respondents had visited Cades Cove before. Among repeat visitors, 36% had visited within the past year.
