The first file is the Alternatives Newsletter which provides the purpose and need statement, project goals and objectives, as well as details related to each of the alternatives. The second file provides a graphic representation or Overview of Visitation for each alternative. The third file is a listing of Elements Common to All of the Action Alternatives. The fourth file is a listing of Optional Elements. These are options which could be included in any alternative and are not directly related to visitation patterns. The fifth document is related to Visitor and Transportation Management in the Cove. This document provides information about existing traffic conditions such as the number of vehicles per day that travel the Loop Road and the ability of the road to accommodate traffic without queues forming. It also provides details about the proposed reservation system (alternative 3) and details about the operation of the transit system related to alternatives 4 and 5.
These alternatives reflect many of the ideas provided by the public during previous public involvement opportunities. |

The first phase of the Cades Cove planning process was completed in fall 2004.
The next phase, which includes the development of the Environmental Impact Statement and continued public involvement, began in early 2005. Elements of these alternatives will continue to evolve as we move through Phase II of the process and gather more information.
